AN ALL WOMEN VISUAL ART SHOW, DISPLAYING EXPRESSIONS OF WANTS AND NEED IN TODAY’S SOCIETY
Atlanta, September 4, 2007 – She’s Gotta Have It, the fifth installment of the 24 Reasons To Live group art show, will host its opening reception on Saturday, September 15, 2007, from 7PM to 11PM at Naio Gallery, located at 477 Flat Shoals Avenue, in East Atlanta. Admission is free.
She’s Gotta Have It, an all-woman exhibit, will feature the artwork of eight visual artists: Damaris, Mo Love, Allison Gay, Makala Fields, Shanequa Gay, Tamara Madden, Alica "Hype" Harding and Visual Poetry. Atlanta female DJ Sweet Hots will provide music.
24 Reasons To Live, first presented in 2005, is the brainchild of Atlanta artists, Golden “Goldi Gold” Aurelien and Craig “The Flux” Singleton. Goldi and Flux desired to participate in some of Atlanta’s art shows in previous years, however they did not get the chance. The two artists then took the initiative and created the opportunity to showcase work in their own production.
The principal aim of the 24 Reasons To Live art show is to inspire audiences, from fellow artists, to white and blue collar workers alike, to step “outside the box,” to be inventive and to create.
She’s Gotta Have It is the first all-female show for 24 Reasons To Live. “Not saying that it hasn’t been done, but I can’t remember any particular all-women art show,” admits Craig “Flux” Singleton, who is also a primary illustrator for RollingOut Weekly magazine. “With some of the art shows that Damaris (a She’s Gotta Have It artist) put together, we learned about many female artists out there and thought, ‘we need to spotlight women too’.
”She’s Gotta Have It is sponsored in part by Jungle 45, Binkis Recs!, Visual Prophets, Frank 151, Sol Jems Massage Therapy, and Naio Gallery.
